We can now embroider on “Igusa” (rush grass)

Rush grass is cultivated and vastly used in Japan for many centuries.
The most common use is probably the Tatami flooring.
One of our goals is to explore different material and embroidery’s,
After a success with embroidering Washi paper, that we eventually had to create our own special Washi to be able to safely embroider on.

The Rush grass challenge was finally all about the Embroidery data plotting, making sure we are not loosing any details to the big gaps of the woven grass.
Here are some images of the first Rush grass production of coasters and place mats.
